new article, new journal online

Virtual Learning: A toe in the pool of the new media, is an article I've written for Global Study, a very professional magazine that has printed several of my stories. This is their new website. I appreciate the honor of being the front-line author in this! They are very nice people too!

Linguistics at SIUC

Save the Linguistics Department! With the publication of this article (may be slow-loading), the struggle to save Linguistics has become more public. The question really is whether an MA TESOL program can survive, let alone flourish, without a Linguistics Department. In a Foreign Languages Dept.? In English? By itself? I don't think so.

One might look around at a time like this and say, the market is flooded with English teachers...they're all over the world, they're being turned out by places with much less than SIUC. But that's exactly my point. At a time when other schools (like No. Ariz. Univ. and Univ. of So. Mississippi) are going pro, setting up TESOL PhD.'s, that's what we should be doing also. Training the teacher-trainers...

Now is the time to save Linguistics...let them know how you feel. We voted unanimously to save the department...now it is time for the Faculty Senate, the Board of Trustees, etc. to do the same...

CESL Today

I've been working on volume 62, 055. You're the first to see it; it's not linked from anywhere yet. It's not quite finished...it's tedious...but very orange. Happy Halloween!

50 links

Apologies again for revisionism...if you had linked up to one of those posts that I deleted, I may have lost them. The first thing that can be said about the fifty links is that the webheads chats generate a lot of useful connections, even if one is in the wrong "room" or if one isn't ready for podcasting. The world is changing quickly and it's good to at least talk about it.

That brings me back to chat itself, which is a relatively new medium for me. I'm getting used to it by allowing the baseball playoffs to come to me in chat-style format. It's interesting.

webheads aug. - october links - incomplete

I have now combined four posts into one long post. Excuse my revisionism. One numbering system will be better for this project, I think. The links are interesting and I'm working my way through them, but I'm taking some out that are dead or perhaps copied wrong. Some also are still out there in my e-mail.

Below are links generated from discussions at webheads tapped-in chats. It has become confusing as often there are discussions in several rooms at once, and I'm only in one at a time...and, I have reached the point of losing many of these in my e-mail. I might as well get them up where they can be seen, and where I can use them.

I might add that Jeff Cooper has made many of these same links available in the Tapped In WIA-Group room discussion space. He may label them differently, be in different rooms, etc. In other words you might get a more complete view of them, or at least what couldn't be gotten here.
